here.

Not ever.

The blonde woman stood motionless in the freezing water.

Hand resting gently against scarred scales.

Her breathing slowed.

The fear in her face had vanished.

Replaced by something stranger.

Sadness.

Recognition.

“You’re hurt,” she whispered softly.

Her fingers brushed the whispered,

“Why is it obeying her?”

At the highest balcony—

a hooded ruler rose slowly from a carved throne.

Expression unreadable.

Cold fingers tightening around dark stone.

Because only one person had ever calmed the beast before.

And according to history—

she drowned centuries ago.

The young then.

Protective.

Waiting.

A voice echoed faintly in memory:

“If they ever come for you… find me.”

Her breath caught.

“No…”

The creature rumbled again.

Its wounded eye watching her carefully.

Then suddenly—

chains hidden beneath the water snapped tight.

Metal groaned violently.

The creature roared.

Pain exploding through the chamber.

The woman stumbled backward.

Confused.

Terrified.

“What are you doing?!”

Above—

the hooded ruler stepped forward.

Slowly removing the shocked.

Not confused.

Furious.

“You remember too much,” the queen said coldly.

The crowd turned in disbelief.

The blonde woman stared upward.

“What?”

The queen raised one hand.

Suddenly—

massive iron gates slammed shut around the the chamber.

“She was never supposed to survive!”

Silence crashed down.

The woman froze.

The creature growled deeply beside her.

Protective
