Now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But no one answered him.<\/p>\n<p>Because all eyes had turned toward the entrance.<\/p>\n<p>The massive doors were opening now.<\/p>\n<p>Slowly.<\/p>\n<p>Not pushed.<\/p>\n<p>Not forced.<\/p>\n<p>Just\u2026 opening.<\/p>\n<p>Like the building itself had decided to obey.<\/p>\n<p>A cold wind slipped into the ballroom from the corridor beyond.<\/p>\n<p>And footsteps followed.<\/p>\n<p>Measured.<\/p>\n<p>Unhurried.<\/p>\n<p>Each one echoing like it belonged to a place far bigger than the room itself.<\/p>\n<p>The first figure appeared in the doorway.<\/p>\n<p>A man in a dark tailored coat.<\/p>\n<p>No entourage.<\/p>\n<p>No announcement.<\/p>\n<p>Just presence.<\/p>\n<p>And the moment Serena heard the footsteps behind her\u2014<\/p>\n<p>she closed her eyes for half a second.<\/p>\n<p>Relief.<\/p>\n<p>Randolph squinted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho let him in?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No one answered.<\/p>\n<p>Because no one had.<\/p>\n<p>The man stepped fully into the ballroom.<\/p>\n<p>And the temperature changed.<\/p>\n<p>Not metaphorically.<\/p>\n<p>Literally.<\/p>\n<p>The chandeliers above flickered once.<\/p>\n<p>Then steadied.<\/p>\n<p>People instinctively stepped back without knowing why.<\/p>\n<p>The man didn\u2019t look at them.<\/p>\n<p>Not even once.<\/p>\n<p>His gaze went directly to Serena.<\/p>\n<p>The room began to whisper.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho is that?\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cI\u2019ve seen him before\u2026\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cNo, you haven\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Randolph took a step forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHey\u2014this is a private event\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The man finally turned his head slightly.<\/p>\n<p>Just enough.<\/p>\n<p>One glance.<\/p>\n<p>That was all it took.<\/p>\n<p>Randolph stopped speaking mid-sentence.<\/p>\n<p>The confidence drained from his face like someone had pulled it out of him.<\/p>\n<p>Because he recognized something.<\/p>\n<p>Not the man.<\/p>\n<p>The authority behind him.<\/p>\n<p>Serena lowered her phone slowly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDad,\u201d she said quietly.<\/p>\n<p>The word didn\u2019t echo.<\/p>\n<p>It <em>landed<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Every wealthy guest froze at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>The man walked past Randolph like he didn\u2019t exist and stopped in front of Serena.<\/p>\n<p>For a moment, the ballroom that had been laughing minutes ago couldn\u2019t even breathe.<\/p>\n<p>Randolph forced a nervous laugh.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026Sir, I think there\u2019s been a misunderstanding.
