{"id":3302,"date":"2026-05-19T13:24:57","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T07:54:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=3302"},"modified":"2026-05-19T13:24:57","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T07:54:57","slug":"part-2-the-thing-behind-the-black-door","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=3302","title":{"rendered":"PART 2: The Thing Behind the Black Door"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The woman froze.<\/p>\n<p>Not from the voice itself\u2014<\/p>\n<p>but from how close it sounded.<\/p>\n<p>As if whoever spoke had been standing behind her long before she reached the hallway.<\/p>\n<p>Slowly, she turned.<\/p>\n<p>At the far end of the corridor stood a tall man in a dark suit, one hand resting calmly at his side.<\/p>\n<p>No footsteps.<br \/>\nNo sound.<br \/>\nJust presence.<\/p>\n<p>Rainlight flickered faintly through the mansion windows behind him.<\/p>\n<p>His expression revealed nothing.<\/p>\n<p>But his eyes never left the black door.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou should go downstairs,\u201d he said quietly.<\/p>\n<p>The woman tightened her grip on the frozen handle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s in this room?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A pause.<\/p>\n<p>The chandeliers above them hummed softly with electricity while thunder rolled somewhere beyond the glass walls.<\/p>\n<p>The man stepped forward once.<\/p>\n<p>Measured.<br \/>\nControlled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reason this family still exists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The hallway suddenly felt colder.<\/p>\n<p>The woman glanced back toward the scratches near the lock.<\/p>\n<p>Fresh.<\/p>\n<p>Desperate.<\/p>\n<p>Not old damage.<\/p>\n<p>Recent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomeone tried to escape,\u201d she whispered.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time, the man\u2019s expression shifted.<\/p>\n<p>Not guilt.<\/p>\n<p>Recognition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey always do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her heartbeat slammed harder against her ribs.<\/p>\n<p>The mansion below remained completely silent now.<\/p>\n<p>No piano.<br \/>\nNo voices.<br \/>\nNo movement.<\/p>\n<p>As if the entire house was listening.<\/p>\n<p>Then\u2014<\/p>\n<p>a soft sound came from behind the black door.<\/p>\n<p>Not a bang.<\/p>\n<p>Not a scream.<\/p>\n<p>A quiet knock.<\/p>\n<p>Three slow taps from the other side.<\/p>\n<p>The woman stepped backward instantly.<\/p>\n<p>The man didn\u2019t react.<\/p>\n<p>Almost like he had heard it before.<\/p>\n<p>Again\u2014<\/p>\n<p>Tap.<br \/>\nTap.<br \/>\nTap.<\/p>\n<p>Then silence.<\/p>\n<p>The woman stared at the door in horror.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026There\u2019s someone inside.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The man looked at her carefully.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo,\u201d he answered softly.<\/p>\n<p>Another pause.<\/p>\n<p>Then lightning flashed through the mansion windows\u2014<\/p>\n<p>and for one brief second, the woman noticed something impossible.<\/p>\n<p>The black door had no keyhole.<\/p>\n<p>No hinges.<\/p>\n<p>No frame.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t built into the wall.<\/p>\n<p>It was <em>part<\/em> of it.<\/p>\n<p>Like the mansion had grown around the door instead of the other way around.<\/p>\n<p>A deep unease settled into her chest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is this place?\u201d she whispered.<\/p>\n<p>The man finally looked toward the door.<\/p>\n<p>And for the first time\u2014<\/p>\n<p>something close to fear appeared in his eyes.<\/p>\n<p>Then the handle beneath her hand moved slightly on its own.<\/p>\n<p>Click.<\/p>\n<p>Unlocked.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The woman froze.
