{"id":3274,"date":"2026-05-19T12:09:14","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T06:39:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=3274"},"modified":"2026-05-19T12:09:14","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T06:39:14","slug":"part-2-the-heir-beneath-the-beast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=3274","title":{"rendered":"PART 2: The Heir Beneath the Beast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The roar vanished.<\/p>\n<p>Not slowly\u2014<\/p>\n<p>instantly.<\/p>\n<p>Like the entire coliseum had been robbed of sound the moment the boy crossed the center line of the arena.<\/p>\n<p>Sand exploded beneath his feet as he sprinted directly toward the monstrous saber-toothed lion.<\/p>\n<p>The beast lunged forward.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands screamed.<\/p>\n<p>The king slammed against the balcony railing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNO!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But the boy never stopped.<\/p>\n<p>The ember-like scar on his shoulder burned brighter beneath the sunlight, glowing through the dust like molten fire beneath skin.<\/p>\n<p>Closer.<\/p>\n<p>Closer.<\/p>\n<p>The lion opened its jaws wide enough to swallow his head whole\u2014<\/p>\n<p>Then suddenly\u2014<\/p>\n<p>the boy shouted something in a language the crowd did not recognize.<\/p>\n<p>The sound cracked across the arena like thunder.<\/p>\n<p>And the beast froze.<\/p>\n<p>Its claws carved trenches through the sand as its entire body locked in place only inches from the boy.<\/p>\n<p>Gasps spread instantly through the coliseum.<\/p>\n<p>The monster\u2019s glowing orange eyes widened.<\/p>\n<p>Not with rage.<\/p>\n<p>With recognition.<\/p>\n<p>The boy stood motionless before it, chest heaving.<\/p>\n<p>Then slowly\u2014<\/p>\n<p>he raised his hand toward the creature\u2019s face.<\/p>\n<p>The soldiers along the arena walls tightened their grip on their spears.<\/p>\n<p>Nobody moved.<\/p>\n<p>Nobody breathed.<\/p>\n<p>The lion lowered its massive head.<\/p>\n<p>A low sound rumbled from its throat.<\/p>\n<p>Not a growl.<\/p>\n<p>A response.<\/p>\n<p>The king\u2019s face went pale.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026Impossible,\u201d he whispered.<\/p>\n<p>The ember mark on the boy\u2019s shoulder pulsed again.<\/p>\n<p>Brighter now.<\/p>\n<p>Matching ancient symbols carved high above the arena walls that had remained dormant for centuries.<\/p>\n<p>Cracks of glowing orange light spread through the stone arches.<\/p>\n<p>The entire coliseum began trembling.<\/p>\n<p>Dust rained from the ceiling as frightened nobles stumbled backward from their seats.<\/p>\n<p>One elderly advisor near the throne stared at the glowing symbols in horror.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bloodline\u2026\u201d he whispered shakily.<\/p>\n<p>The king turned toward him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat did you say?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The old man couldn\u2019t take his eyes off the boy below.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe First Kings never conquered the beasts\u2026\u201d he said quietly.<\/p>\n<p>Another violent tremor shook the arena.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey commanded them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Down on the battlefield, the giant saber-toothed lion slowly stepped aside from the boy.<\/p>\n<p>Obedient.<\/p>\n<p>Protective.<\/p>\n<p>As if the true ruler of the arena had finally returned.<\/p>\n<p>Then the boy lifted his eyes toward the royal balcony once more.<\/p>\n<p>And for the first time\u2014<\/p>\n<p>the king didn\u2019t see a child standing below him.<\/p>\n<p>He saw the heir the kingdom had tried to bury.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The roar vanished.
