{"id":3235,"date":"2026-05-19T10:14:22","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T04:44:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=3235"},"modified":"2026-05-19T10:14:22","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T04:44:22","slug":"part-2-the-night-the-clubhouse-became-a-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=3235","title":{"rendered":"PART 2: The Night the Clubhouse Became a Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rain hammered the roof of the Iron Vale Riders clubhouse while the two children sat quietly near the fireplace wrapped in oversized blankets.<\/p>\n<p>The little girl had already fallen asleep curled against her brother\u2019s side, clutching a stuffed bear one of the bikers found in storage years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Around the room, hardened bikers pretended not to stare.<\/p>\n<p>But none of them could ignore what they were seeing.<\/p>\n<p>The boy couldn\u2019t have been older than twelve.<\/p>\n<p>Yet every time his little sister moved\u2014<\/p>\n<p>he checked on her first before himself.<\/p>\n<p>Biker leader Huck Darnell slowly sat across from him holding two bowls of hot stew.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s your name, kid?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd your sister?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRosie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Huck handed him the food carefully.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen\u2019s the last time you two ate?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evan hesitated.<\/p>\n<p>That answer alone told Huck everything.<\/p>\n<p>The bikers around the room quietly exchanged dark looks.<\/p>\n<p>Because children don\u2019t end up knocking on biker clubhouse doors during storms unless something went very wrong first.<\/p>\n<p>Huck kept his voice calm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere are your parents?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evan lowered his eyes immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur mom died last year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The clubhouse fell silent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd your dad?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The boy\u2019s jaw tightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe drinks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One biker muttered a curse softly under his breath.<\/p>\n<p>Evan continued quietly:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe got angry tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Huck noticed bruises near the boy\u2019s wrist now partially visible beneath the wet sleeve.<\/p>\n<p>Not new bruises.<\/p>\n<p>Old ones too.<\/p>\n<p>Rosie stirred in her sleep and instinctively reached for her brother\u2019s hand.<\/p>\n<p>Even asleep\u2014<\/p>\n<p>she was still afraid he\u2019d disappear.<\/p>\n<p>Something changed in the room at that moment.<\/p>\n<p>These weren\u2019t just runaway kids anymore.<\/p>\n<p>They were children surviving.<\/p>\n<p>Huck leaned back slowly in his chair.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou walked here?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evan nodded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the rain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s fifteen miles,\u201d one biker whispered in disbelief.<\/p>\n<p>Evan shrugged tiredly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was cold.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The biker nearest the fireplace quietly wiped at his eyes before pretending smoke got in them.<\/p>\n<p>Because most of the men inside Iron Vale grew up rough.<\/p>\n<p>Some abandoned.<br \/>\nSome beaten.<br \/>\nSome forgotten.<\/p>\n<p>And now they were looking at two children fighting through the same darkness they once survived themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Then Rosie slowly woke up.<\/p>\n<p>Her frightened eyes darted around the unfamiliar clubhouse\u2014<\/p>\n<p>until she saw Huck.<\/p>\n<p>The giant biker smiled gently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou hungry, sweetheart?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She nodded shyly.<\/p>\n<p>Huck handed her a grilled cheese sandwich nearly the size of her face.<\/p>\n<p>Rosie stared at it in amazement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan I really eat all of it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The question broke something inside half the room.<\/p>\n<p>Because no child should ever need permission to eat.<\/p>\n<p>Later that night, while the storm continued outside, Huck stood alone near the clubhouse window watching the rain.<\/p>\n<p>One biker stepped beside him quietly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat now?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Huck looked back toward the children sleeping safely near the fire.<\/p>\n<p>Then answered softly:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A slow smile crossed the old biker\u2019s face.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow they got family.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rain hammered the roof of the Iron Vale Riders clubhouse while the two children sat quietly near the fireplace wrapped in oversized blankets.
