{"id":3201,"date":"2026-05-18T16:28:15","date_gmt":"2026-05-18T10:58:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=3201"},"modified":"2026-05-18T16:28:15","modified_gmt":"2026-05-18T10:58:15","slug":"part-2-the-archer-the-kingdom-feared-to-name","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=3201","title":{"rendered":"PART 2: The Archer the Kingdom Feared to Name"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The flood didn\u2019t stop for hours.<\/p>\n<p>What remained of the invading army was erased beneath roaring water, shattered stone, and collapsing earth as Iron-Hold\u2019s valley turned into a storm-driven grave.<\/p>\n<p>Then\u2014<\/p>\n<p>silence.<\/p>\n<p>Only rain returned.<\/p>\n<p>The boy still stood on the outer wall, bow lowered, eyes fixed on the drowning battlefield below.<\/p>\n<p>No celebration rose from the fortress.<\/p>\n<p>No cheers.<\/p>\n<p>Because the silence felt wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Heavy footsteps approached behind him.<\/p>\n<p>Captain Roderic.<\/p>\n<p>He stopped a few meters away, staring at the boy like he was seeing him for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou didn\u2019t miss a single shot,\u201d Roderic said quietly.<\/p>\n<p>The boy didn\u2019t respond.<\/p>\n<p>He slowly pulled another obsidian arrow from his quiver.<\/p>\n<p>Only two remained now.<\/p>\n<p>Roderic noticed immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026there were five?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The boy finally spoke, still facing the valley.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI only needed three.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A long pause followed.<\/p>\n<p>Thunder rolled far in the distance, softer now.<\/p>\n<p>Roderic stepped closer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou destroyed an entire army,\u201d he said. \u201cDo you understand what you\u2019ve done?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The boy\u2019s expression didn\u2019t change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were already going to die,\u201d he replied calmly.<\/p>\n<p>Roderic frowned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat dam was ancient. It was sealed for a reason.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At that, the boy turned slightly.<\/p>\n<p>And for the first time\u2014<\/p>\n<p>something sharp flickered in his eyes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>A distant horn echoed through the mountains.<\/p>\n<p>Not the enemy.<\/p>\n<p>Iron-Hold\u2019s own alarm horns.<\/p>\n<p>Confusion spread instantly across the battlements as soldiers rushed to the edges of the wall.<\/p>\n<p>Roderic looked up sharply.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is that sound?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another horn answered from the opposite ridge.<\/p>\n<p>Then another.<\/p>\n<p>Then dozens.<\/p>\n<p>From every direction beyond the valley, new banners rose through the storm.<\/p>\n<p>Not the same army.<\/p>\n<p>A second coalition.<\/p>\n<p>Bigger.<\/p>\n<p>Heavily armed.<\/p>\n<p>Waiting.<\/p>\n<p>Roderic\u2019s face tightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey used the first wave as a test\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The boy calmly rested his bow against the stone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo,\u201d he corrected quietly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey used it to wake me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A cold silence followed those words.<\/p>\n<p>Roderic turned slowly toward him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWake you for what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The boy looked back at the flooded valley\u2014now reshaped into a brutal natural barrier filled with wreckage and sinking ground.<\/p>\n<p>Then he answered:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor what comes next.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Far below, the floodwaters began to shift again.<\/p>\n<p>Not from rain.<\/p>\n<p>From movement beneath the surface.<\/p>\n<p>Something was still alive in the valley.<\/p>\n<p>Something large enough that even the flood hadn\u2019t finished it.<\/p>\n<p>And for the first time that night\u2014<\/p>\n<p>the kingdom realized the dam wasn\u2019t the weapon.<\/p>\n<p>The flood wasn\u2019t the weapon either.<\/p>\n<p>The boy on the wall was only the warning.<\/p>\n<p>Behind them, Iron-Hold\u2019s gates slowly began to close.<\/p>\n<p>But the boy didn\u2019t turn around.<\/p>\n<p>Because whatever was coming next\u2014<\/p>\n<p>was already inside the valley.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The flood didn\u2019t stop for hours.
