{"id":3115,"date":"2026-05-18T13:46:20","date_gmt":"2026-05-18T08:16:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=3115"},"modified":"2026-05-18T13:46:20","modified_gmt":"2026-05-18T08:16:20","slug":"part-2-the-tiger-that-refused-to-leave","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=3115","title":{"rendered":"PART 2: The Tiger That Refused to Leave"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rain crashed through the jungle canopy while thunder rolled across the ancient ruins.<\/p>\n<p>Nobody moved.<\/p>\n<p>The Bengal tiger stood over the little girl like a living wall, muscles tense beneath soaked orange fur as its glowing eyes followed every rifle pointed toward them.<\/p>\n<p>The hunters breathed carefully now.<\/p>\n<p>No sudden movement.<br \/>\nNo noise.<\/p>\n<p>Because one wrong step would turn the ruins into bloodshed.<\/p>\n<p>The little girl clung tightly to the tiger\u2019s neck, trembling violently beneath the storm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe won\u2019t hurt you,\u201d she whispered through tears.<\/p>\n<p>But even she sounded unsure.<\/p>\n<p>One hunter slowly lowered his rifle.<\/p>\n<p>Another didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is insane,\u201d he muttered nervously. \u201cThat thing\u2019s a predator.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lightning exploded across the jungle sky.<\/p>\n<p>For one blinding second, the ancient temple ruins lit up around them\u2014<\/p>\n<p>broken statues,<br \/>\ncollapsed stone pillars,<br \/>\nand strange symbols carved into the moss-covered walls.<\/p>\n<p>Then darkness returned.<\/p>\n<p>The older tracker in the group stepped forward carefully, rain running down his weathered face.<\/p>\n<p>His eyes remained locked on the tiger.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo\u2026\u201d he whispered.<\/p>\n<p>The others glanced toward him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The old tracker swallowed slowly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat tiger\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A pause.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve seen it before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Silence spread instantly through the ruins.<\/p>\n<p>The hunter holding the rifle frowned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But the old man\u2019s expression only grew paler.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThree years ago,\u201d he whispered, \u201cafter the village fires.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The little girl looked up suddenly.<\/p>\n<p>The rain seemed quieter for a moment.<\/p>\n<p>The tracker stared directly at the tiger now like he was remembering something he wished he could forget.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople thought it was killing survivors in the jungle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thunder shook the ruins again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut every body we found\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His voice cracked slightly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026was nowhere near the children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The armed men slowly looked back at the tiger.<\/p>\n<p>The animal didn\u2019t move.<\/p>\n<p>Still protecting her.<\/p>\n<p>Still watching them.<\/p>\n<p>The little girl gently stroked the soaked fur around its neck.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey killed my mother,\u201d she whispered softly. \u201cThe fire spread everywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tears mixed with rain on her face.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought I was going to die too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The tiger lowered its head slightly beside her.<\/p>\n<p>Calm.<\/p>\n<p>Almost gentle.<\/p>\n<p>The girl\u2019s small fingers tightened into the fur.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen he came out of the smoke.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nobody spoke.<\/p>\n<p>Because the jungle suddenly felt different.<\/p>\n<p>Older.<\/p>\n<p>Watching.<\/p>\n<p>One nervous hunter raised his flashlight toward the ancient temple wall behind them.<\/p>\n<p>And froze.<\/p>\n<p>Fresh claw marks covered the stone.<\/p>\n<p>Huge.<\/p>\n<p>Deep enough to split rock itself.<\/p>\n<p>Below the marks\u2014<\/p>\n<p>ancient carvings of enormous striped beasts surrounded a circle of kneeling warriors.<\/p>\n<p>The tracker\u2019s face lost all color.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The others turned toward him again.<\/p>\n<p>He pointed shakily toward the symbols.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis temple\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rain dripped heavily through the broken ruins.<\/p>\n<p>The old tracker\u2019s voice lowered almost to a whisper.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt wasn\u2019t built to worship gods.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lightning flashed again.<\/p>\n<p>The tiger slowly turned its massive head toward the temple entrance behind them.<\/p>\n<p>And growled.<\/p>\n<p>Low.<br \/>\nDeep.<br \/>\nWarning them.<\/p>\n<p>Then suddenly\u2014<\/p>\n<p>something moved inside the darkness beyond the ruined doorway.<\/p>\n<p>Not the tiger.<\/p>\n<p>Something else.<\/p>\n<p>Heavy footsteps echoed faintly beneath the storm.<\/p>\n<p>The hunters instinctively raised their rifles again.<\/p>\n<p>But the Bengal tiger stepped directly in front of the little girl\u2014<\/p>\n<p>and this time\u2026<\/p>\n<p>its fury wasn\u2019t aimed at them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rain crashed through the jungle canopy while thunder rolled across the ancient ruins.
