{"id":3092,"date":"2026-05-18T13:04:24","date_gmt":"2026-05-18T07:34:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=3092"},"modified":"2026-05-18T13:04:24","modified_gmt":"2026-05-18T07:34:24","slug":"part-2-the-sky-finally-answered-her-call","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=3092","title":{"rendered":"PART 2: The Sky Finally Answered Her Call"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The aircraft shook violently again.<\/p>\n<p>Thunder rolled across the sky while red emergency lights flickered through the narrow cabin, casting terrified faces into flashes of panic and shadow.<\/p>\n<p>Passengers gripped armrests tighter.<\/p>\n<p>A woman near the aisle quietly cried.<\/p>\n<p>Someone whispered prayers beneath the roar of the engines.<\/p>\n<p>But near the window\u2014<\/p>\n<p>the little girl stayed frozen.<\/p>\n<p>The oversized headset trembled slightly against her small head.<\/p>\n<p>Her tiny hand still clutched the radio microphone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been looking for you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The words echoed inside the headset.<\/p>\n<p>Too big.<\/p>\n<p>Too important.<\/p>\n<p>Too impossible.<\/p>\n<p>Fresh tears rolled down her cheeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know my daddy?\u201d she whispered.<\/p>\n<p>For a second\u2014<\/p>\n<p>only static answered.<\/p>\n<p>Then the pilot\u2019s voice returned.<\/p>\n<p>Careful now.<\/p>\n<p>Like he was afraid of saying the wrong thing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s your name, sweetheart?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The girl swallowed hard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Silence.<\/p>\n<p>Long enough to feel strange.<\/p>\n<p>Then\u2014<\/p>\n<p>the pilot exhaled sharply.<\/p>\n<p>Almost like someone had punched the air from his lungs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh God\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another voice suddenly broke faintly into the radio.<\/p>\n<p>Distant.<\/p>\n<p>Urgent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know her?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The first pilot answered quietly\u2014<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A pause.<\/p>\n<p>Heavy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s Falcon\u2019s kid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The fighter jet outside shifted slightly closer through the storm.<\/p>\n<p>Close enough now that Mia could see the outline of the pilot inside the cockpit.<\/p>\n<p>Watching.<\/p>\n<p>Protecting.<\/p>\n<p>The plane lurched violently again.<\/p>\n<p>A scream erupted somewhere in the cabin.<\/p>\n<p>Overhead bins rattled.<\/p>\n<p>The headset crackled louder.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMia,\u201d the pilot said firmly now. \u201cListen to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She wiped at her tears.<\/p>\n<p>Trying hard to be brave.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI need you to tell me something.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His voice lowered.<\/p>\n<p>Careful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho put you on this plane?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The little girl hesitated.<\/p>\n<p>Then glanced nervously toward the front of the aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>Toward the cockpit door.<\/p>\n<p>Fear crossed her face instantly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe man in the black coat,\u201d she whispered.<\/p>\n<p>The radio went silent.<\/p>\n<p>Too silent.<\/p>\n<p>Then\u2014<\/p>\n<p>another pilot cursed quietly over the channel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo way\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The first voice returned colder now.<\/p>\n<p>Sharp.<\/p>\n<p>Focused.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMia,\u201d he said carefully, \u201cis he still on the plane?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She nodded instinctively\u2014<\/p>\n<p>Then remembered he couldn\u2019t see.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026yes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thunder shook the aircraft again.<\/p>\n<p>Outside\u2014<\/p>\n<p>both fighter jets changed formation.<\/p>\n<p>Falling slightly behind.<\/p>\n<p>Watching the plane differently now.<\/p>\n<p>Like this wasn\u2019t just an emergency escort anymore.<\/p>\n<p>Like something had become very wrong.<\/p>\n<p>The pilot spoke again.<\/p>\n<p>His voice quieter this time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMia\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A pause.<\/p>\n<p>Then\u2014<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid your dad ever tell you what Falcon means?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She shook her head softly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The pilot exhaled.<\/p>\n<p>Then answered with something that made her stomach twist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour father wasn\u2019t just a pilot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another pause.<\/p>\n<p>Heavy.<\/p>\n<p>Careful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe disappeared trying to stop the man you\u2019re sitting near.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The cabin suddenly felt colder.<\/p>\n<p>Mia\u2019s tiny hands tightened around the microphone.<\/p>\n<p>Fear rushed through her chest.<\/p>\n<p>Because suddenly\u2014<\/p>\n<p>The storm outside didn\u2019t feel like the biggest danger anymore.<\/p>\n<p>Then\u2014<\/p>\n<p>from somewhere near the cockpit\u2014<\/p>\n<p>a door slowly opened.<\/p>\n<p>Heavy footsteps echoed down the aisle.<\/p>\n<p>And a man in a black coat began walking toward her.<\/p>\n<p>The headset crackled sharply.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMia,\u201d the pilot said urgently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo.
