{"id":3037,"date":"2026-05-18T09:29:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-18T03:59:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=3037"},"modified":"2026-05-18T09:29:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-18T03:59:11","slug":"part-2-the-wolf-that-guarded-the-storm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=3037","title":{"rendered":"PART 2: The Wolf That Guarded the Storm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The blizzard screamed through the forest.<\/p>\n<p>Snow whipped violently between the towering pine trees while lantern light shook in trembling hands.<\/p>\n<p>Nobody moved.<\/p>\n<p>The massive gray wolf stood over the sleeping child like a living wall, thick fur coated in ice as its glowing eyes locked onto the hunters one by one.<\/p>\n<p>Rifles remained raised\u2014<\/p>\n<p>but no one dared pull the trigger.<\/p>\n<p>Because something about the animal felt wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Not wild.<\/p>\n<p>Not afraid.<\/p>\n<p>Intentional.<\/p>\n<p>The little boy slept peacefully against the frozen tree roots, one tiny hand still buried deep in the wolf\u2019s fur as if he trusted the creature completely.<\/p>\n<p>A hunter swallowed hard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow is the kid even alive?\u201d he whispered.<\/p>\n<p>No answer came.<\/p>\n<p>Only the wind.<\/p>\n<p>The wolf slowly stepped forward once.<\/p>\n<p>Instantly, several rifles tightened.<\/p>\n<p>But the creature didn\u2019t attack.<\/p>\n<p>It simply positioned itself more firmly between the child and the weapons pointed toward him.<\/p>\n<p>Protecting him.<\/p>\n<p>The oldest rescuer lowered his lantern slightly, eyes narrowing through the storm.<\/p>\n<p>Then his face changed.<\/p>\n<p>Confusion first.<\/p>\n<p>Then disbelief.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo\u2026\u201d he whispered.<\/p>\n<p>Another hunter glanced toward him nervously.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The older man pointed shakily toward the wolf\u2019s neck.<\/p>\n<p>Half-hidden beneath the snow and thick gray fur\u2014<\/p>\n<p>was leather.<\/p>\n<p>Old leather.<\/p>\n<p>A collar.<\/p>\n<p>The group froze.<\/p>\n<p>Because wolves didn\u2019t wear collars.<\/p>\n<p>The old rescuer stepped closer carefully.<\/p>\n<p>His voice barely worked now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat collar belonged to Ranger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Silence cracked through the storm.<\/p>\n<p>Every hunter turned toward him.<\/p>\n<p>Ranger.<\/p>\n<p>The legendary rescue dog that vanished three winters earlier during the mountain avalanche.<\/p>\n<p>Declared dead after saving two missing hikers.<\/p>\n<p>The old rescuer\u2019s breathing became uneven.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI buried that collar myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The wolf stared directly at him.<\/p>\n<p>Unmoving.<\/p>\n<p>Watching.<\/p>\n<p>Then suddenly\u2014<\/p>\n<p>the little boy stirred awake.<\/p>\n<p>His eyes opened slowly beneath the snowfall.<\/p>\n<p>For one confused second, he simply looked around at the lanterns and rifles.<\/p>\n<p>Then panic hit him instantly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo!\u201d he cried, wrapping both arms tightly around the wolf\u2019s neck. \u201cDon\u2019t hurt him!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The wolf remained completely still beside him.<\/p>\n<p>Calm.<\/p>\n<p>Protective.<\/p>\n<p>The hunters exchanged stunned glances.<\/p>\n<p>The child wasn\u2019t scared of the animal.<\/p>\n<p>He trusted it more than the people surrounding him.<\/p>\n<p>The old rescuer slowly lowered his rifle completely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow long has it been with you?\u201d he asked softly.<\/p>\n<p>The boy\u2019s lips trembled from cold.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll night,\u201d he whispered. \u201cWhen the storm came\u2026 it covered me so I wouldn\u2019t freeze.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The group fell silent again.<\/p>\n<p>Because the snow around the tree revealed the truth.<\/p>\n<p>The wolf had curled its massive body around the child through the entire blizzard\u2014<\/p>\n<p>shielding him from the wind with its own warmth.<\/p>\n<p>One hunter finally muttered under his breath:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat animal saved his life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then the wolf\u2019s ears suddenly lifted.<\/p>\n<p>Its glowing eyes turned sharply toward the deeper forest.<\/p>\n<p>A low growl rumbled through its chest.<\/p>\n<p>Not anger.<\/p>\n<p>Warning.<\/p>\n<p>The rescuers stiffened instantly.<\/p>\n<p>The blizzard swallowed visibility beyond the trees.<\/p>\n<p>But something moved out there.<\/p>\n<p>Heavy.<\/p>\n<p>Slow.<\/p>\n<p>Branches cracked faintly in the darkness.<\/p>\n<p>The hunters raised their rifles again.<\/p>\n<p>The little boy tightened his grip on the wolf\u2019s fur.<\/p>\n<p>And the massive gray wolf stepped forward into the storm\u2014<\/p>\n<p>standing between the child\u2026<\/p>\n<p>and whatever was approaching through the snow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The blizzard screamed through the forest.
