2: The Secret Michael Took to the Grave

The old jukebox inside quiet roadside diner kept humming softly through the silence, but nobody at the corner booth seemed to hear it anymore.

Five hardened bikers sat frozen around untouched coffee cups while the little girl stood beside them clutching the edge of her coat.

Every eye remained locked on the folded note trembling in Wade’s hands.

Because there was no mistaking the handwriting.

Michael Turner.

Their brother.

Their rider.

The man they buried six years earlier after a highway ambush outside Reno.

Wade slowly lowered the paper onto the table like it might explode if he moved too fast.

Across from him, another biker leaned closer.

“You sure it’s his?”

Wade swallowed hard.

“I’d know Mike’s writing anywhere.”

The little girl shifted nervously beneath the warm diner lights.

She looked exhausted.

Cold.

And far too young to be standing in the middle of something this dangerous.

the little girl glanced between the men carefully.

“My dad said you’d protect me.”

Nobody answered immediately.

Because one impossible question hung over the booth now.

If Michael Turner wrote that letter—

then how did this child know him?

Wade finally looked at her again.

“What’s your name, sweetheart?”

“…Ava.”

“And your father told you to come here?”

She nodded quickly.

“Mom gave me the note after… after the men came.”

The diner suddenly felt colder.

“What men?” another biker asked quietly.

Ava’s tiny fingers tightened around her sleeves.

“The ones looking for my dad.”

One biker cursed softly under his breath.

“That’s impossible,” someone muttered. “Mike’s been dead six years.”

Ava looked confused by the reaction.

“He’s not dead.”

Silence crashed across the booth.

Even the waitress carrying coffee nearby stopped moving.

Wade stared at her carefully now.

“What did you just say?”

“My dad’s alive,” Ava whispered. “He told me to find the ravens if something went wrong.”

The biker nearest the aisle slowly stood from his seat.

“No damn way…”

Wade’s pulse hammered in his ears.

Because they buried Michael themselves.

Closed casket.

Burned bike.

No body worth identifying.

At the time, everyone said the fire explained everything.

Now suddenly—

nothing made sense anymore.

Wade unfolded the note again and noticed something he’d missed before.

A series of numbers written faintly beneath the signature.

Coordinates.

One of the bikers immediately grabbed a map from his saddlebag near the booth.

He checked the numbers once—

then looked up sharply.

“That’s Black Hollow.”

The entire table stiffened.

Black Hollow wasn’t just abandoned.

It was dangerous.

An old military communications site hidden deep in the mountains outside Nevada.

Locals avoided it for years after private security contractors moved into the area.

Wade looked back toward Ava slowly.

“Did your father say why people were after him?”

Her eyes filled instantly with fear.

“He said they can’t know about me.”

Before anyone could ask another question—

the diner bell above the entrance jingled softly.

Every biker turned.

Three men entered wearing dark jackets despite the warm night air outside.

Too clean.

Too alert.

Not truckers.

Not locals.

One of them scanned the diner once—

then stopped directly on Ava.

The little girl froze.

Her breathing turned shallow instantly.

“That’s them,” she whispered.

Wade stood up so fast his chair slammed backward across the floor.

The men near the entrance exchanged quick glances.

Then the tallest one smiled coldly.

“Well,” he said calmly, “that saves us some time.”

The entire diner shifted.

Boots scraped.

Leather creaked.

Every biker in the booth rose together.

Ava backed closer behind Wade as his massive frame blocked her from view.

The stranger’s smile faded slightly when he noticed the raven patches stitched across their vests.

“You boys don’t understand what you’re involved in.”

Wade’s expression turned deadly calm.

“Funny,” he said quietly, “we were just about to say the same thing.”

Outside—

motorcycle engines suddenly roared awake beneath the dark Nevada sky.

One after another.

The sound rolled through the diner like distant thunder.

And for the first time in six years—

the Ravens realized Michael Turner might not have died that night at all.

The
