It\u2019s just water.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But the water was no longer still.<\/p>\n<p>It moved like it had a heartbeat.<\/p>\n<p>Slow.<\/p>\n<p>Deliberate.<\/p>\n<p>Alive.<\/p>\n<p>The hand beneath the ice slowly slid upward, fingers tracing the frozen barrier like it was searching for a weakness.<\/p>\n<p>Then\u2014<\/p>\n<p><em>knock.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A single dull \u0443\u0434\u0430\u0440 echoed through the ice.<\/p>\n<p>Both men jerked back instantly.<\/p>\n<p>The crack widened by a fraction.<\/p>\n<p>A thin white line spread across the surface like a vein of breaking glass.<\/p>\n<p>The first man raised his rifle, hands shaking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBack away,\u201d he warned, though his voice had lost all authority.<\/p>\n<p>The second man kept staring at the center of the crack.<\/p>\n<p>At the exact spot where the hand had been.<\/p>\n<p>Because now\u2014<\/p>\n<p>it wasn\u2019t alone.<\/p>\n<p>A second shadow appeared beneath the ice.<\/p>\n<p>Then a third.<\/p>\n<p>Shapes moving under frozen water that should have been empty.<\/p>\n<p>The surface began to bulge upward slightly, as if something massive was pressing from below.<\/p>\n<p>The ice groaned.<\/p>\n<p>Deep.<\/p>\n<p>Ancient.<\/p>\n<p>Unnatural.<\/p>\n<p>The man at the edge finally stepped back, panic replacing logic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should leave,\u201d he whispered.<\/p>\n<p>But it was too late.<\/p>\n<p>The hand beneath the ice suddenly pressed harder.<\/p>\n<p><em>CRACK.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A sharp fracture shot outward.<\/p>\n<p>The ice split directly beneath them.<\/p>\n<p>And from the black water below\u2014<\/p>\n<p>a voice rose.<\/p>\n<p>Not loud.<\/p>\n<p>Not angry.<\/p>\n<p>Just\u2026 certain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou came too close.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The men froze completely.<\/p>\n<p>Because the voice wasn\u2019t coming from outside.<\/p>\n<p>It was coming through the ice itself.<\/p>\n<p>The second man dropped his flashlight.<\/p>\n<p>Its beam hit the crack\u2014<\/p>\n<p>and revealed something rising slowly beneath the surface.<\/p>\n<p>A face.<\/p>\n<p>Too close.<\/p>\n<p>Too clear.<\/p>\n<p>Eyes open.<\/p>\n<p>Staring straight up through the breaking ice.<\/p>\n<p>Then the hand moved again\u2014<\/p>\n<p>and slammed upward with brutal force.<\/p>\n<p>The entire frozen sheet exploded outward.<\/p>\n<p>Ice shards flew into the storm.<\/p>\n<p>Water erupted into the air like a breaking seal.<\/p>\n<p>And something climbed out of the darkness beneath the frozen wasteland\u2026 for the first time in years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The man at the edge of the ice couldn\u2019t move.
