Cars rolled quietly past the emergency entrance.<\/p>\n

But beside the hospital wall\u2014<\/p>\n

nothing else mattered anymore.<\/p>\n

The homeless veteran remained on his knees holding his daughter tightly against his chest.<\/p>\n

Tears streamed through his gray beard.<\/p>\n

The little girl cried into his worn military jacket while clutching her teddy bear with one hand.<\/p>\n

Warm hospital lights reflected across the parking lot windows behind them while distant ambulance sirens echoed through the city.<\/p>\n

Daniel gently stroked his daughter\u2019s hair.<\/p>\n

\u201cI couldn\u2019t remember anything at first.\u201d<\/p>\n

The mother covered her mouth quietly.<\/p>\n

Shock crushing through her.<\/p>\n
