The diner stood completely silent beneath the buzzing neon lights.<\/p>\n

No forks moved.
\nNo country music mattered anymore.<\/p>\n

Every eye remained locked on the elderly man sitting calmly inside the booth.<\/p>\n

The faint blue glow beneath his cybernetic hand reflected across the chrome table while the massive biker slowly stepped backward.<\/p>\n

For the first time\u2014<\/p>\n

fear entered his face.<\/p>\n

The old man carefully placed his burger back onto the plate.<\/p>\n

Slow.
\nControlled.<\/p>\n

Like violence no longer surprised him.<\/p>\n

Outside, rain began tapping softly against the diner windows while trucks rolled past the dark highway beyond the parking lot.<\/p>\n

The biker tried forcing a laugh.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat the hell are you supposed to be?\u201d<\/p>\n

The old man finally spoke.<\/p>\n

Quiet voice.
\nWeathered by age.<\/p>\n

\u201cA survivor.\u201d<\/p>\n

A truck driver near the counter suddenly froze mid-bite.<\/p>\n

One older waitress covered her mouth quietly.<\/p>\n

Because some people still remembered Black Ridge.<\/p>\n

The classified military disaster nobody was supposed to talk about.<\/p>\n

The biker frowned in confusion.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat the hell is Black Ridge?\u201d<\/p>\n

The old man didn\u2019t answer immediately.<\/p>\n

Instead\u2014<\/p>\n

he slowly reached into his jacket pocket and removed a faded photograph.<\/p>\n

Several soldiers stood together in combat gear beside burning vehicles somewhere deep in a desert warzone.<\/p>\n

Only one man in the picture remained standing.<\/p>\n

The old man.<\/p>\n

Younger.
\nStronger.
\nOne arm still human.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey told the world we died heroes,\u201d he whispered.<\/p>\n

His cybernetic fingers tightened slightly.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut heroes don\u2019t come home in pieces.\u201d<\/p>\n

The diner air suddenly felt heavier.<\/p>\n

Outside, thunder rolled across the highway.<\/p>\n

The biker glanced nervously toward the glowing implant again.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou some kinda machine now?\u201d<\/p>\n

The old man\u2019s jaw tightened.<\/p>\n

Then his eyes hardened.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I learned how to survive like one.\u201d<\/p>\n

Silence crushed the diner.<\/p>\n

The biker looked around expecting laughter.

\nAnything.<\/p>\n

But nobody stood beside him anymore.<\/p>\n

Even his own friends near the jukebox looked uncertain now.<\/p>\n

Then suddenly\u2014<\/p>\n

The biker clenched his fists again.<\/p>\n

Trying desperately to recover his pride.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou think that metal hand scares me?\u201d<\/p>\n

The old man\u2019s expression never changed.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n

A faint mechanical sound echoed softly beneath the diner lights as the cybernetic fingers slowly flexed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think your choices should.\u201d<\/p>\n

Complete silence.<\/p>\n

The biker stared at him for one long moment\u2014<\/p>\n

then finally lowered his eyes.<\/p>\n

Because deep down\u2014<\/p>\n

he understood something.<\/p>\n

This wasn\u2019t fear of violence.<\/p>\n

It was shame.<\/p>\n

The old man picked up his camouflage cap carefully.<\/p>\n

Several customers silently moved aside as he walked toward the diner exit beneath the warm neon glow.<\/p>\n

Halfway to the door\u2014<\/p>\n

he stopped beside the terrified waitress holding a tray near the counter.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou okay, sweetheart?\u201d<\/p>\n

She nodded quickly.<\/p>\n

Still stunned.<\/p>\n

The old man gave the smallest smile.<\/p>\n

Then disappeared into the rainy highway night.<\/p>\n

The bell above the diner door echoed softly after he left.<\/p>\n

And only then did the truck driver near the counter finally whisper the thought nobody else could say out loud.<\/p>\n

He stared toward the rain-covered parking lot outside.<\/p>\n
