data-start=\"285\" data-end=\"389\">The tiny girl walked carefully ahead of him, clutching the small bag of coins tightly against her chest.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"391\" data-end=\"429\">She couldn\u2019t have been older than six.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"431\" data-end=\"452\">And she was barefoot.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"454\" data-end=\"497\">Weston\u2019s stomach tightened with every step.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"499\" data-end=\"547\">\u201cWhat\u2019s your name, sweetheart?\u201d he asked gently.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"549\" data-end=\"557\">\u201cEmily.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"559\" data-end=\"596\">Her voice barely rose above the wind.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"598\" data-end=\"617\">\u201cAnd your brother?\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"619\" wasn\u2019t running.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"826\" data-end=\"845\">No heat.<br \/>\nNo lights.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"847\" data-end=\"855\">Nothing.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"857\" data-end=\"890\">Fear moved through him instantly.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"892\" data-end=\"957\">Emily hurried toward the back seat and opened the door carefully.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"959\" data-end=\"1040\">Inside, a baby wrapped in a thin blanket whimpered softly from the freezing cold.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1042\" data-end=\"1064\">And in the front seat\u2014<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1066\" data-end=\"1108\">a woman sat motionless against the window.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1110\" data-end=\"1123\">Weston froze.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1125\" data-end=\"1174\">For one terrible second, he thought she was dead.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1348\" data-end=\"1358\">But alive.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1360\" data-end=\"1367\">Barely.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1369\" data-end=\"1403\">Her breathing was weak and uneven.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1405\" data-end=\"1437\">Weston\u2019s heart pounded hard now.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1439\" data-end=\"1519\">He quickly shrugged off his leather jacket and wrapped it around the baby first.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1521\" data-end=\"1547\">Then he grabbed his phone.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1549\" data-end=\"1591\">\u201cNo signal,\u201d he muttered under his breath.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1593\" data-end=\"1635\">The storm must have knocked the tower out.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1637\" data-end=\"1670\">Emily looked up at him fearfully.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1672\" data-end=\"1698\">\u201cIs Mommy gonna leave us?\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1700\" data-end=\"1727\">The question shattered him.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1729\" data-end=\"1765\">Because Weston remembered that fear.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1767\" data-end=\"1880\">Years ago, he lost his own little sister during a brutal winter after their mother overdosed in a roadside motel.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1882\" data-end=\"1902\">Nobody came in time.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1904\" data-end=\"1919\">Nobody noticed.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1921\" data-end=\"1957\">And he never forgave himself for it.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1959\" data-end=\"1973\">But this time\u2026<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1975\" data-end=\"1987\">he was here.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1989\" data-end=\"2064\">Weston looked down at the tiny girl standing in the snow trying not to cry.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2066\" data-end=\"2102\">\u201cNo,\u201d he said firmly. \u201cNot tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2104\" data-end=\"2205\">He carefully lifted the unconscious mother into his arms while snow began falling harder around them.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2207\" data-end=\"2245\">Then he looked toward the gas station.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2247\" data-end=\"2392\">Inside, people still bought coffee.<br \/>\nStill laughed.<br \/>\nStill lived their normal lives completely unaware two children were freezing to death outside.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2394\" data-end=\"2417\">Weston\u2019s jaw tightened.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2419\" data-end=\"2463\">\u201cEmily,\u201d he said calmly, \u201cstay close to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2465\" data-end=\"2498\">The little girl nodded instantly.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2500\" data-end=\"2643\">Weston carried the mother toward the station entrance while Emily held tightly onto his vest with one hand and her baby brother with the other.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2645\" data-end=\"2707\">The moment the gas station clerk saw them, his face went pale.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2709\" data-end=\"2721\">\u201cOh my God\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2723\" data-end=\"2767\">\u201cCall an ambulance,\u201d Weston ordered sharply.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2769\" data-end=\"2809\">The clerk grabbed the phone immediately.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2811\" data-end=\"2901\">Customers turned in shock as Weston laid the unconscious woman carefully outside in the freezing dark\u2026<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3110\" data-end=\"3144\">these children had been invisible.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3146\" data-end=\"3219\">A paramedic team finally arrived twenty minutes later through heavy snow.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3221\" data-end=\"3305\">As they loaded the mother onto the stretcher, one medic pulled Weston aside quietly.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3307\" data-end=\"3334\">\u201cYou saved them,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3336\" data-end=\"3375\">But Weston looked toward Emily instead.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3377\" data-end=\"3458\">The little girl still clutched the bag of coins tightly in her tiny frozen hands.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3460\" data-end=\"3506\">Coins she was willing to spend not on herself\u2026<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3508\" data-end=\"3541\">but on milk for her baby brother.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3543\" data-end=\"3580\">Weston slowly knelt beside her again.<\/p>\n<p
