{"id":2254,"date":"2026-05-09T17:11:24","date_gmt":"2026-05-09T11:41:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=2254"},"modified":"2026-05-09T17:11:24","modified_gmt":"2026-05-09T11:41:24","slug":"part-2-the-house-the-iron-crows-wouldnt-leave","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/storytimes.online\/?p=2254","title":{"rendered":"PART 2: The House the Iron Crows Wouldn\u2019t Leave"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Smoke rolled across Oakhaven Lane as flames climbed higher through the Peterson house, turning the storm-dark sky orange beneath crashing thunder.<\/p>\n<p>Rain hammered the pavement.<\/p>\n<p>Power lines sparked wildly across flooded streets.<\/p>\n<p>And inside the burning home\u2014<\/p>\n<p>children were still trapped.<\/p>\n<p>Iron Crows moved through the fire without hesitation, boots smashing through shattered glass while neighbors stood frozen behind police tape.<\/p>\n<p>Nobody could believe what they were seeing.<\/p>\n<p>The same bikers homeowners once complained about at city meetings were now charging straight into a collapsing house while trained responders struggled to reach the second floor.<\/p>\n<p>At the center of the chaos, Wrench kicked through smoke-blackened debris, heavy axe clenched in one hand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCheck the hallway!\u201d he shouted.<\/p>\n<p>The roar of the fire nearly swallowed his voice.<\/p>\n<p>Above him\u2014<\/p>\n<p>wood cracked loudly.<\/p>\n<p>The second floor sagged.<\/p>\n<p>Somewhere deeper inside the house, a child screamed.<\/p>\n<p>Every biker froze for half a second.<\/p>\n<p>Then ran faster.<\/p>\n<p>Outside, terrified neighbors huddled beneath umbrellas and soaked blankets.<\/p>\n<p>One woman grabbed a firefighter\u2019s arm. \u201cThose men are going to die in there!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The trapped firefighter shook his head slowly while staring at the burning house.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo,\u201d he whispered.<\/p>\n<p>Because he\u2019d seen something the others hadn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>Discipline.<\/p>\n<p>The Iron Crows weren\u2019t charging blindly.<\/p>\n<p>They moved like men used to danger.<\/p>\n<p>Used to chaos.<\/p>\n<p>Used to pulling people out when everyone else ran away.<\/p>\n<p>Inside the smoke-filled hallway, Wrench covered his mouth against the heat while kicking open another bedroom door.<\/p>\n<p>Empty.<\/p>\n<p>Another biker burst through the smoke behind him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBack room\u2019s clear!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then\u2014<\/p>\n<p>a faint cry.<\/p>\n<p>Tiny.<\/p>\n<p>Weak.<\/p>\n<p>Wrench turned instantly toward the sound.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the collapsing hallway stood a little girl in pink pajamas, trapped behind burning debris.<\/p>\n<p>the little girl clutched a stuffed rabbit tightly against her chest, crying too hard to move.<\/p>\n<p>The ceiling above her groaned.<\/p>\n<p>One more collapse and she was gone.<\/p>\n<p>Wrench didn\u2019t hesitate.<\/p>\n<p>He charged through the flames.<\/p>\n<p>Fire rolled across his leather vest as part of the ceiling crashed beside him, sparks exploding across the hallway.<\/p>\n<p>Outside, neighbors screamed.<\/p>\n<p>But inside\u2014<\/p>\n<p>Wrench reached the little girl seconds before another beam slammed into the floor behind her.<\/p>\n<p>He dropped to one knee immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHey,\u201d he said calmly despite the inferno around them. \u201cI got you now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The little girl threw herself against him instantly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy mommy\u2019s upstairs!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Everything stopped.<\/p>\n<p>Even the fire seemed quieter for one terrible second.<\/p>\n<p>Wrench\u2019s jaw tightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe parents didn\u2019t get out?\u201d he barked into the radio clipped to his vest.<\/p>\n<p>Static answered first.<\/p>\n<p>Then another biker\u2019s voice:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMother\u2019s trapped second floor! Father unconscious near the stairs!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The hallway suddenly shook violently.<\/p>\n<p>The house was failing.<\/p>\n<p>Fast.<\/p>\n<p>Outside\u2014<\/p>\n<p>firefighters shouted warnings as the roof sagged dangerously lower.<\/p>\n<p>A police officer yelled toward the bikers near the entrance. \u201cEverybody out now!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nobody moved.<\/p>\n<p>Inside the burning hallway, Wrench handed the little girl carefully to another Crow who had reached them through the smoke.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGet her outside.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat about you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wrench looked upward toward the collapsing second floor.<\/p>\n<p>Then toward the little girl crying for her mother.<\/p>\n<p>Rainwater hissed against the flames pouring through broken windows.<\/p>\n<p>And somewhere above them\u2014<\/p>\n<p>someone screamed again.<\/p>\n<p>Wrench picked up the axe.<\/p>\n<p>Cold determination settled across his soot-covered face.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe kid said her mama\u2019s still inside.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The biker holding the little girl stared at him. \u201cThe roof\u2019s coming down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wrench looked back toward the staircase disappearing into fire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen we better get there first.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Outside\u2014<\/p>\n<p>neighbors watched in stunned silence as the massive biker turned away from safety\u2026<\/p>\n<p>and disappeared deeper into the flames again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Smoke rolled across Oakhaven Lane as flames climbed higher through the Peterson house, turning the storm-dark sky orange beneath crashing thunder.
