Behind him, the child clung to the back of his vest so tightly her small hands shook.<br \/>\nThe biker in the doorway didn\u2019t look nervous.<br \/>\nThat bothered Hawk most.<br \/>\nBecause he recognized the patch immediately.<br \/>\nSame club.<br \/>\nSame colors.<br \/>\nSame brotherhood.<br \/>\nOr what used to be one.<br \/>\n\u201cWhat the hell is this?\u201d Hawk asked quietly.<br \/>\nThe man stepped farther inside, rainwater dripping from his jacket onto the wooden floor.<br \/>\n\u201cClub business,\u201d he replied. \u201cHand her over.\u201d<br \/>\nThe girl whimpered behind Hawk. \u201cDon\u2019t\u2026\u201d<br \/>\nHawk\u2019s jaw tightened.<br \/>\n\u201cYou got a name, kid?\u201d he asked softly without looking back.<br \/>\nA pause.<br \/>\n\u201c\u2026Mia.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cMia,\u201d Hawk said calmly, \u201cnobody\u2019s touching you.\u201d<br \/>\nThe biker near the door laughed once. Short. Cold.<br \/>\n\u201cYou don\u2019t understand what she is.\u201d<br \/>\nThat word landed wrong.<br \/>\nHawk\u2019s eyes narrowed. \u201cShe\u2019s a child.\u201d<br \/>\nThe man\u2019s expression hardened. \u201cShe\u2019s evidence.\u201d<br \/>\nThe tavern shifted instantly.<br \/>\nChairs scraped quietly.<br \/>\nBoots repositioned.<br \/>\nEvery biker in the room felt it\u2014that invisible line where something stopped being club business and became something uglier.<br \/>\nHawk finally stepped forward.<br \/>\n\u201cYou wanna explain why a little girl\u2019s covered in bruises?\u201d<br \/>\nThe biker hesitated.<br \/>\nTiny mistake.<br \/>\n\u201cShe saw something she shouldn\u2019t have,\u201d he admitted.<br \/>\nBehind Hawk, Mia\u2019s breathing became uneven again. \u201cThey hurt my brother\u2026\u201d<br \/>\nHawk froze.<br \/>\nThe room did too.<br \/>\n\u201cWhat brother?\u201d he asked carefully.<br \/>\nMia\u2019s voice cracked. \u201cThey took him.\u201d<br \/>\nSomething dark moved behind Hawk\u2019s eyes then.<br \/>\nNot anger.<br \/>\nWorse.<br \/>\nDisappointment.<br \/>\nThe kind that came when monsters wore familiar colors.<br \/>\nOutside, engines continued rumbling around the tavern, headlights burning through the windows like prison bars.<br \/>\nThe biker near the door noticed the room turning against him.<br \/>\n\u201cYou don\u2019t know the full story,\u201d he snapped.<br \/>\n\u201cThen tell it,\u201d Hawk said.<br \/>\nSilence.<br \/>\nRain.<br \/>\nThunder somewhere far away.<br \/>\nThen\u2014<br \/>\n\u201cShe belongs to Rainer.\u201d<br \/>\nEvery face changed.<br \/>\nEven the old-timers at the bar straightened at that name.<br \/>\nRainer<br \/>\nHawk\u2019s expression went completely still.<br \/>\n\u201cThat\u2019s impossible,\u201d someone muttered.<br \/>\nThe biker shook his head. \u201cNot anymore.\u201d<br \/>\nMia grabbed Hawk\u2019s vest again. \u201cPlease don\u2019t let them take me back.\u201d<br \/>\nBack.<br \/>\nNot home.<br \/>\nBack.<br \/>\nThat single word settled everything.<br \/>\nHawk slowly reached behind him, resting one hand gently over hers.<br \/>\nThen he looked at the man in the doorway.<br \/>\n\u201cNo,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nSimple.<br \/>\nFinal.<br \/>\nThe biker sighed. \u201cYou\u2019re making a mistake.\u201d<br \/>\nHawk took another step forward.<br \/>\n\u201cNo,\u201d he replied quietly. \u201cYou already did.\u201d<br \/>\nOutside\u2014<br \/>\nengines suddenly roared louder.<br \/>\nNot leaving.<br \/>\nPositioning.<br \/>\nThe tavern was surrounded.<br \/>\nInside, Hawk\u2019s crew began standing one by one.<br \/>\nNo shouting.<br \/>\nNo panic.<br \/>\nJust resolve.<br \/>\nThe biker at the door glanced behind him once, then back at Hawk.<br \/>\n\u201cYou really gonna start a war over one girl?\u201d<br \/>\nHawk looked down briefly at Mia\u2014small, bruised, terrified, still trying not to cry too loudly.<br \/>\nThen back at the man wearing his colors.<br \/>\n\u201cIf she ran to me,\u201d Hawk said softly, \u201cthat means somewhere deep down\u2026 she already knew who the good men were.\u201d<br \/>\nA long silence followed.<br \/>\nThen Hawk\u2019s hand lowered slowly toward the knife at his belt.<br \/>\n\u201cNow,\u201d he said, voice colder than the storm outside, \u201cyou should probably tell the boys out there\u2026\u201d<br \/>\nThe tavern lights flickered.<br \/>\n\u201c\u2026they came to the wrong damn place.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The room went dead silent.
