Calm. Dangerous.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe doesn\u2019t look too happy to see you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Silence.<\/p>\n<p>The diner staff pretend not to stare, but no one looks away.<\/p>\n<p>The girl whispers against his arm, barely audible\u2014<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That one word is enough.<\/p>\n<p>Travis leans back slightly, keeping one arm around her shoulders. \u201cKid stays here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s expressions darken instantly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis ain\u2019t your business, biker.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Travis\u2019s eyes narrow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt became my business,\u201d he says quietly, \u201cthe second she asked for help.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The tension snaps tight across the room.<\/p>\n<p>One man steps closer.<\/p>\n<p>Big mistake.<\/p>\n<p>Every chair behind Travis suddenly scrapes back.<\/p>\n<p>Truckers stand.<\/p>\n<p>A waitress grips the shotgun hidden under the counter.<\/p>\n<p>And the old cook in the kitchen doorway mutters, \u201cNot in my diner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The three men finally realize something\u2014<\/p>\n<p>this little roadside stop isn\u2019t empty anymore.<\/p>\n<p>Travis slowly stands, placing himself fully between the girl and the men.<\/p>\n<p>Scarred face.<\/p>\n<p>Heavy silence.<\/p>\n<p>Unshaken eyes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou should leave,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>No shouting.<\/p>\n<p>No threats.<\/p>\n<p>Which somehow makes it worse.<\/p>\n<p>The lead man clenches his jaw\u2026 then notices the patch on Travis\u2019s vest.<\/p>\n<p>Recognition hits instantly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re Boone\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Travis says nothing.<\/p>\n<p>But that silence confirms everything.<\/p>\n<p>The man steps back.<\/p>\n<p>Because now he understands\u2014<\/p>\n<p>this isn\u2019t just some biker.<\/p>\n<p>This is the wrong man to push.<\/p>\n<p>Outside, thunder shakes the highway.<\/p>\n<p>Inside, the girl finally loosens her grip slightly.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time that night\u2014<\/p>\n<p>she feels safe.<\/p>\n<p>And Travis realizes something too:<\/p>\n<p>He may have met her only minutes ago\u2026<\/p>\n<p>but he already knows one thing for certain\u2014<\/p>\n<p>no one is taking her.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The three men stop beside the booth.
