Grease-stained hands turned careful\u2014precise\u2014as the biker cradling the baby lowered her onto a workbench.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"315\" data-end=\"334\">\u201cIs she breathing?\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"336\" data-end=\"345\">\u201cBarely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"347\" data-end=\"375\">\u201cGet me something warm\u2014now!\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"377\" data-end=\"621\">Jackets came off without thinking. One man yanked a clean rag from a drawer, another grabbed a small heater from the corner and kicked it on. The garage, once cold and indifferent, shifted\u2014tightening around the fragile life in the center of it.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"623\" data-end=\"704\">The biker who\u2019d opened the case hovered close, his hands steadier than his voice.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"706\" data-end=\"805\">\u201cHey\u2026 hey, little one,\u201d he murmured, like the words themselves might keep her here. \u201cStay with us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"807\" data-end=\"821\">A faint sound.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"823\" data-end=\"855\">So small it almost wasn\u2019t there.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"857\" data-end=\"875\">But it was enough.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"877\" data-end=\"908\">\u201cShe\u2019s fighting,\u201d someone said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"910\" data-end=\"949\">\u201cGood,\u201d the biker replied. \u201cSo are we.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"951\" data-end=\"1018\">Across the room, the girl lay curled on the concrete, shaking hard.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1020\" data-end=\"1156\">\u201cI didn\u2019t know what else to do\u2026\u201d she repeated, her voice breaking apart. \u201cThey were coming\u2026 I heard them\u2026 I couldn\u2019t let them take her\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1158\" data-end=\"1222\">Another biker knelt beside her, gentler than his size suggested.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1224\" data-end=\"1298\">\u201cHey,\u201d he said softly. \u201cYou did good. You hear me? You did exactly right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1300\" data-end=\"1366\">She shook her head, tears streaking through the grime on her face.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1368\" data-end=\"1470\">\u201cMy sister said if anything happened\u2014if they found us\u2014I should run. Take the baby. Find the Serpents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1472\" data-end=\"1502\">He glanced back at the others.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1504\" data-end=\"1559\">\u201cYour sister\u2019s smart,\u201d he said quietly. \u201cYou found us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1561\" data-end=\"1635\">At the bench, the man holding the baby felt a tiny shift against his palm.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1637\" data-end=\"1644\">\u201cWait\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1646\" data-end=\"1665\">Everyone leaned in.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1667\" data-end=\"1676\">A breath.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1678\" data-end=\"1695\">Shallow. Fragile.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1697\" data-end=\"1707\">But there.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1709\" data-end=\"1745\">\u201cCome on,\u201d he whispered. \u201cOne more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1747\" data-end=\"1755\">Another.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1757\" data-end=\"1766\">Stronger.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1768\" data-end=\"1817\">Relief didn\u2019t explode\u2014it settled, heavy and real.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1819\" data-end=\"1876\">\u201cShe\u2019s stabilizing,\u201d one of them said. \u201cWe need a medic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1878\" data-end=\"1961\">\u201cNo hospitals,\u201d another snapped. \u201cIf she\u2019s right, whoever\u2019s after them will check.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1963\" data-end=\"1971\">Silence.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1973\" data-end=\"1992\">A decision forming.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1994\" data-end=\"2137\">The man at the center looked down at the baby, wrapped now in leather and cloth that smelled like oil and road and something unexpectedly safe.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2139\" data-end=\"2166\">Then he looked at the girl.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2168\" data-end=\"2187\">\u201cWhat\u2019s your name?\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2189\" data-end=\"2197\">\u201c\u2026Maya.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2199\" data-end=\"2270\">\u201cOkay, Maya.\u201d His voice was firm, anchored. \u201cYou\u2019re not alone anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2272\" data-end=\"2358\">Her eyes flicked up\u2014searching his face, measuring something she didn\u2019t have words for.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2360\" data-end=\"2398\">Behind them, an engine roared to life.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2400\" data-end=\"2484\">\u201cBoss,\u201d someone called, already moving. \u201cI know a place. Off the grid. Old contact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2486\" data-end=\"2506\">The man nodded once.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2508\" data-end=\"2524\">\u201cGet the truck.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2526\" data-end=\"2567\">Movement surged again\u2014organized, focused.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2569\" data-end=\"2623\">Weapons quietly checked. Doors secured.
