Not dramatic. Not obvious.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"671\" data-end=\"687\">Just deliberate.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"689\" data-end=\"726\">\u201cWhat\u2019s your name?\u201d he asked quietly.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"728\" data-end=\"742\">She hesitated.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"744\" data-end=\"766\">\u201cLena,\u201d she whispered.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"768\" data-end=\"782\">A beat passed.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"784\" data-end=\"827\">Then, carefully: \u201cThey\u2019re still out there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"829\" data-end=\"863\">Travis didn\u2019t ask who <em data-start=\"851\" data-end=\"857\">they<\/em> were.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"865\" data-end=\"885\">He just nodded once.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"887\" data-end=\"911\">That was enough for now.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"913\" data-end=\"958\">A shadow moved past the fogged glass outside.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"960\" data-end=\"965\">Slow.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"967\" data-end=\"977\">Measuring.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"979\" data-end=\"988\">Watching.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"990\" data-end=\"1029\">Travis saw it without turning his head.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1031\" data-end=\"1053\">\u201cSit,\u201d he said gently.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1055\" data-end=\"1098\">Lena shook her head immediately. \u201cI can\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1100\" data-end=\"1122\">\u201cYou can,\u201d he replied.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1124\" data-end=\"1137\">Not pressure.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1139\" data-end=\"1154\">Just certainty.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1156\" data-end=\"1257\">She slid into the booth behind him, curling inward, trying to make herself smaller than fear allowed.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1259\" data-end=\"1284\">Travis remained standing.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1286\" data-end=\"1318\">Between her and everything else.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1320\" data-end=\"1366\">The bell above the door didn\u2019t ring this time.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1368\" data-end=\"1392\">It opened without sound.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1394\" data-end=\"1415\">Three men stepped in.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1417\" data-end=\"1511\">Rain dripping from their jackets, faces calm in a way that didn\u2019t belong in a place like this.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1513\" data-end=\"1545\">The diner got quieter in stages.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1547\" data-end=\"1583\">A conversation stopped mid-sentence.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1585\" data-end=\"1618\">A fork paused halfway to a plate.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1620\" data-end=\"1670\">Someone near the counter slowly turned their head.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1672\" data-end=\"1691\">Travis didn\u2019t move.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1693\" data-end=\"1707\">Didn\u2019t flinch.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1709\" data-end=\"1738\">The man in front spoke first.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1740\" data-end=\"1777\">\u201cWe\u2019re looking for someone,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1779\" data-end=\"1833\">Travis finally turned slightly\u2014not fully, just enough.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1835\" data-end=\"1861\">\u201cShe\u2019s not here,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1863\" data-end=\"1895\">The man\u2019s eyes shifted past him.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1897\" data-end=\"1914\">Toward the booth.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1916\" data-end=\"1965\">Toward the shape hidden behind Travis\u2019s shoulder.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1967\" data-end=\"2000\">\u201cThere was a girl,\u201d the man said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2002\" data-end=\"2021\">Travis nodded once.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2023\" data-end=\"2035\">\u201cThere was.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2037\" data-end=\"2045\">A pause.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2047\" data-end=\"2065\">The air tightened.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2067\" data-end=\"2099\">Lena\u2019s breath caught behind him.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2101\" data-end=\"2164\">Travis placed one hand on the back of the booth\u2014not as comfort.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2166\" data-end=\"2176\">As anchor.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2178\" data-end=\"2207\">\u201cShe\u2019s with me now,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2209\" data-end=\"2232\">The words weren\u2019t loud.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2234\" data-end=\"2266\">But they filled the room anyway.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2268\" data-end=\"2342\">The man frowned slightly. \u201cYou don\u2019t understand what you\u2019re getting into.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2344\" data-end=\"2367\">Travis tilted his head.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2369\" data-end=\"2403\">\u201cI understand enough,\u201d he replied.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2405\" data-end=\"2425\">Another step inside.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2427\" data-end=\"2452\">The second man this time.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2454\" data-end=\"2461\">Closer.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2463\" data-end=\"2471\">Testing.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2473\" data-end=\"2497\">Travis didn\u2019t step back.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2499\" data-end=\"2512\">Didn\u2019t shift.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2514\" data-end=\"2547\">Just stayed exactly where he was.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2549\" data-end=\"2611\">Like he had decided that position mattered more than movement.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2613\" data-end=\"2664\">Behind him, Lena\u2019s voice came out small but urgent.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2666\" data-end=\"2698\">\u201cPlease don\u2019t let them take me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2700\" data-end=\"2712\">That did it.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2714\" data-end=\"2775\">Something in Travis\u2019s expression changed\u2014not anger, not fear.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2777\" data-end=\"2786\">Decision.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2788\" data-end=\"2811\">Final, clean, absolute.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2813\" data-end=\"2831\">He exhaled slowly.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2833\" data-end=\"2862\">Then reached into his pocket.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2864\" data-end=\"2873\">Not fast.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2875\" data-end=\"2891\">Not threatening.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2893\" data-end=\"2929\">Just enough to make the room notice.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2931\" data-end=\"2956\">The man in front stopped.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2958\" data-end=\"2974\">\u201cEasy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2976\" data-end=\"3010\">Travis looked at him directly now.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3012\" data-end=\"3035\">\u201cI am,\u201d Travis replied.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3037\" data-end=\"3044\">A beat.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3046\" data-end=\"3060\">Then, quieter:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3062\" data-end=\"3083\">\u201cThat\u2019s the problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3085\" data-end=\"3126\">Outside, headlights cut through the rain.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3128\" data-end=\"3140\">One vehicle.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3142\" data-end=\"3155\">Then another.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3157\" data-end=\"3167\">Then more.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3169\" data-end=\"3194\">Not arriving all at once.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3196\" data-end=\"3206\">But close.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3208\" data-end=\"3218\">Organized.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3220\" data-end=\"3275\">The kind of approach that didn\u2019t belong to coincidence.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3277\" data-end=\"3310\">The men at the door heard it too.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3312\" data-end=\"3346\">Their confidence shifted slightly.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3348\" data-end=\"3373\">Travis did not look away.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3375\" data-end=\"3444\">He just spoke over his shoulder, softly enough for only Lena to hear.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3446\" data-end=\"3481\">\u201cYou\u2019re safe right there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3483\" data-end=\"3531\">She nodded, though her hands were still shaking.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3533\" data-end=\"3577\">The first man at the door glanced back once.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3579\" data-end=\"3599\">Then back at Travis.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3601\" data-end=\"3630\">\u201cThis isn\u2019t over,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3632\" data-end=\"3670\">Travis gave a faint, almost tired nod.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3672\" data-end=\"3690\">\u201cI know,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3692\" data-end=\"3731\">Then, without raising his voice at all:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3733\" data-end=\"3751\">\u201cIt just started.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3753\" data-end=\"3852\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">And somewhere outside, in the rain and neon blur, engines began to idle\u2014waiting for
