He just stood there, the girl\u2019s small pile of coins still resting in his hand, his eyes fixed on the riders as they rolled in one by one.<\/p>\n

The rider nodded once. \u201cOld service road out past the ridge. No traffic. Easy to disappear.\u201d<\/p>\n
That lined up too well.<\/p>\n
The biker exhaled slowly, the pieces locking into place.<\/p>\n
\u201cHow long ago?\u201d he asked the girl.<\/p>\n
She looked down.<\/p>\n
\u201cI waited until the sun went away\u2026 and came back,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Too long.<\/p>\n
But maybe not too late.<\/p>\n
The biker crouched slightly, bringing himself level with her.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou did good,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Her eyes searched his face.<\/p>\n
\u201cWill we find her?\u201d<\/p>\n
This time, he didn\u2019t answer right away.<\/p>\n
He looked out at the riders.<\/p>\n
At the line of machines stretching across the lot.<\/p>\n

\u201cBlackwood Creek,\u201d he called out.<\/p>\n
No shouting.<\/p>\n

The riders moved instantly.<\/p>\n
Helmets on.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s the play?\u201d someone asked.<\/p>\n
The biker\u2019s voice hardened.<\/p>\n
\u201cFast and quiet,\u201d he said. \u201cNo lights. No noise until we\u2019re close.\u201d<\/p>\n

He helped her onto the front of his bike, adjusting his jacket around her small frame, making sure she was secure.<\/p>\n

She nodded, gripping tight.<\/p>\n
The engines came alive again.<\/p>\n
Not roaring.<\/p>\n
Not wild.<\/p>\n
Controlled.<\/p>\n
Unified.<\/p>\n
The formation shifted, tightening into something purposeful, something direct.<\/p>\n
