After all this time.<\/p>\n

Across the table, the girl\u2014small, quiet, still holding onto the edge of her seat\u2014watched him like she was waiting for something simple.<\/p>\n

An answer.<\/p>\n

Instead, she got silence.<\/p>\n

Heavy.<\/p>\n

The biker ended the call slowly.<\/p>\n

Outside, engines started again\u2014low at first, then building, not chaotic but organized. One after another, riders moved into place, like something long dormant had just been called back to life.<\/p>\n

The girl glanced toward the window.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re coming?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re already here,\u201d he replied.<\/p>\n

He stood.<\/p>\n

This time, there was no hesitation.<\/p>\n

No weight holding him back.<\/p>\n

Just direction.<\/p>\n

\u201cStay close to me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

She slid off the booth immediately, moving to his side without question.<\/p>\n

Inside the diner, conversations had died down. People felt it now\u2014the shift. The difference between noise and something about to happen.<\/p>\n

At the door, the biker paused for just a second.<\/p>\n

Then he stepped out into the heat.<\/p>\n

Another rider stepped forward. \u201cThis is him?\u201d<\/p>\n

The biker\u2019s jaw tightened.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s him.\u201d<\/p>\n

That changed everything.<\/p>\n

Not louder.<\/p>\n

Not wilder.<\/p>\n
