The biker didn\u2019t move right away.<\/p>\n

He just sat there, eyes still on the boy, replaying the whisper in his head like it might change if he heard it twice.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe said not to leave the table.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

That wasn\u2019t a request.<\/p>\n

It was control.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow long?\u201d the biker asked again, quieter this time.<\/p>\n

The boy shrugged, picking at another fry without looking up. \u201cA while.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not helpful.<\/p>\n

But honest.<\/p>\n

The biker leaned back slightly, his gaze shifting\u2014not wandering, but calculating. Every table. Every face. The counter. The kitchen door. The bathrooms. The windows streaked with rain.<\/p>\n

Nothing obvious.<\/p>\n

That was the problem.<\/p>\n

The woman from the next table leaned closer, her voice sharper now. \u201cThis isn\u2019t right. Someone should call\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI know,\u201d the biker said, cutting her off without raising his voice.<\/p>\n

That stopped her.<\/p>\n

Not because of what he said.<\/p>\n

Because of how certain he sounded.<\/p>\n

The boy finally looked up at him.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe said he\u2019d come back,\u201d he added softly.<\/p>\n

The biker nodded once.<\/p>\n

\u201cDid he say where he was going?\u201d<\/p>\n

The boy shook his head.<\/p>\n

\u201cDid he tell you what to do if someone talked to you?\u201d<\/p>\n

A small pause.<\/p>\n

Then: \u201cDon\u2019t go with them.\u201d<\/p>\n

The biker\u2019s jaw tightened.<\/p>\n

Of course he did.<\/p>\n

Outside, a car passed through the lot, headlights cutting briefly across the window before disappearing into the rain.<\/p>\n

The biker watched it.<\/p>\n

Too fast.<\/p>\n

Not lingering.<\/p>\n

Not watching.<\/p>\n

Good.<\/p>\n

Still\u2014something wasn\u2019t right.<\/p>\n

He stood up.<\/p>\n

Slow.<\/p>\n

Deliberate.<\/p>\n

\u201cStay here,\u201d he told the boy.<\/p>\n

The boy froze instantly.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t,\u201d he said quickly. \u201cHe said\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not taking you,\u201d the biker interrupted. \u201cI\u2019m making sure no one else does.\u201d<\/p>\n

That landed differently.<\/p>\n

The boy hesitated\u2026 then nodded.<\/p>\n

The biker stepped away from the booth, moving toward the counter like any other customer\u2014but his eyes never stopped working.<\/p>\n

\u201cBathroom?\u201d he asked the cashier.<\/p>\n

\u201cBack left,\u201d she said, confused but pointing anyway.<\/p>\n

He nodded, walking past\u2014but instead of going in, he paused just enough to glance inside.<\/p>\n

Empty.<\/p>\n

Kitchen door\u2014half open.<\/p>\n

Staff inside.<\/p>\n

Nothing off.<\/p>\n

He turned back.<\/p>\n

The room felt the same.<\/p>\n

But it wasn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

He could feel it.<\/p>\n

Then he saw it.<\/p>\n

Not inside.<\/p>\n

Outside.<\/p>\n

Across the parking lot.<\/p>\n

A gray sedan.<\/p>\n

Engine running.<\/p>\n

Lights off.<\/p>\n

Parked too far from the entrance for someone grabbing food\u2026 but angled just enough to see the door.<\/p>\n

Waiting.<\/p>\n

The biker\u2019s expression didn\u2019t change.<\/p>\n

But something in him locked into place.<\/p>\n

He walked back to the booth.<\/p>\n

Sat down.<\/p>\n

Close again.<\/p>\n

The boy looked at him immediately. \u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n

The biker leaned in slightly.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe man who brought you,\u201d he said quietly. \u201cWhat did he look like?\u201d<\/p>\n

The boy hesitated.<\/p>\n

Then: \u201cNice. Smiled a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n

That was enough.<\/p>\n

The biker exhaled slowly, then glanced once more toward the window.<\/p>\n

The sedan hadn\u2019t moved.<\/p>\n

Of course it hadn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

\u201cListen to me,\u201d he said, voice low and steady. \u201cYou did exactly what you were supposed to do. You stayed put.\u201d<\/p>\n

The boy nodded, but fear crept back in. \u201cIs he coming back?\u201d<\/p>\n

The biker didn\u2019t answer that.<\/p>\n

Not directly.<\/p>\n

Instead, he reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone, dialing without looking away from the glass.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah,\u201d he said when it picked up. \u201cI need a plate run. Gray sedan, no lights, sitting west side of a diner lot. Been here too long.\u201d<\/p>\n

A pause.<\/p>\n

Then: \u201cYeah. I\u2019ll hold.\u201d<\/p>\n

He hung up before more could be said.<\/p>\n

The boy stared at him. \u201cWho was that?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSomeone who checks things,\u201d the biker replied.<\/p>\n

The woman from earlier stood now, unable to stay out of it.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you saying that man left him here?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n

The biker looked at her.<\/p>\n

Not annoyed.<\/p>\n

Not dismissive.<\/p>\n

Just direct.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m saying he didn\u2019t leave,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

That landed hard.<\/p>\n

The woman went quiet.<\/p>\n

The boy\u2019s eyes widened. \u201cHe\u2019s still here?\u201d<\/p>\n

The biker nodded slightly.<\/p>\n

\u201cWatching,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Outside, rain hit harder against the glass.<\/p>\n

The sedan\u2019s engine still hummed.<\/p>\n

Patient.<\/p>\n

Waiting for the wrong moment.<\/p>\n

The biker leaned back, one arm resting casually on the booth\u2014but his posture had changed completely.<\/p>\n

Not relaxed.<\/p>\n

Ready.<\/p>\n
