The flowers kept coming.<\/p>\n

Not rushed. Not chaotic.<\/p>\n

One by one\u2014placed with a kind of care that didn\u2019t belong to men who lived fast and loud.<\/p>\n

Harper stood in the middle of it, her small hand still wrapped around Wade\u2019s, as color slowly took over the yard. Yellows. Whites. Soft purples. Wild, uneven, beautiful.<\/p>\n

It didn\u2019t look planned.<\/p>\n

It looked\u2026 honest.<\/p>\n

She turned in a slow circle, taking it all in.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re making a garden,\u201d she said quietly, like she had just figured it out.<\/p>\n

Wade followed her gaze.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah,\u201d he murmured. \u201cLooks like it.\u201d<\/p>\n

But it wasn\u2019t just a garden.<\/p>\n

It was something growing in real time\u2014something none of them had words for.<\/p>\n

A rider with gray in his beard knelt near the fence, pressing a cluster of flowers gently into the soil. Another adjusted a crooked pot until it stood straight. Someone else poured water from a spare bottle like it mattered.<\/p>\n

No one gave orders.<\/p>\n

No one led.<\/p>\n

They just\u2026 did it.<\/p>\n

Harper looked up at Wade again.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou didn\u2019t tell them to do this, did you?\u201d<\/p>\n

He shook his head.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n

She smiled at that.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood.\u201d<\/p>\n

He raised an eyebrow slightly. \u201cWhy\u2019s that?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause then it wouldn\u2019t count the same,\u201d she said simply.<\/p>\n

That hit deeper than she knew.<\/p>\n

Wade looked out at the riders again\u2014men and women who had followed roads for years without stopping long enough to notice where they were.<\/p>\n

And now here they were.<\/p>\n

Stopping.<\/p>\n

Choosing to.<\/p>\n

Harper stepped forward, letting go of his hand for the first time since she\u2019d taken it.<\/p>\n

But she didn\u2019t go far.<\/p>\n

She knelt near a patch of freshly placed flowers, adjusting them with careful fingers, mimicking what she had seen.<\/p>\n

One of the riders noticed and smiled faintly, stepping back to give her space.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis one needs more sun,\u201d she said, moving a small bunch a few inches over.<\/p>\n

No one argued.<\/p>\n

No one corrected her.<\/p>\n

Because somehow\u2014<\/p>\n

She was right.<\/p>\n

Wade watched her for a long moment.<\/p>\n

Then, slowly, he walked forward and crouched beside her.<\/p>\n

Not as the man at the front of the line.<\/p>\n

Not as the one everyone followed.<\/p>\n

Just as someone helping.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike this?\u201d he asked, gently pressing a stem into place.<\/p>\n

Harper nodded, serious. \u201cYeah. That\u2019s better.\u201d<\/p>\n

They worked in silence for a bit.<\/p>\n

Not empty silence.<\/p>\n

Full.<\/p>\n

The kind that doesn\u2019t need filling.<\/p>\n

After a while, Harper leaned back on her heels, looking at what they had made.<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t perfect.<\/p>\n

Patches were uneven. Colors clashed in places.<\/p>\n

But it was alive.<\/p>\n

And it was theirs.<\/p>\n

She looked up at Wade again.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou really staying?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n

He didn\u2019t hesitate this time.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Not a maybe.<\/p>\n

Not a \u201cfor now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Just\u2026 yes.<\/p>\n

She studied his face, like she was making sure.<\/p>\n

Then she smiled\u2014small, but certain.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Behind them, a few riders exchanged glances.<\/p>\n

No one said it out loud.<\/p>\n

But they felt it.<\/p>\n

Something had changed.<\/p>\n

Not just in him.<\/p>\n

In all of them.<\/p>\n

Because roads don\u2019t usually end.<\/p>\n

They just keep going.<\/p>\n

But sometimes\u2014<\/p>\n

Someone gives you a reason to stop.<\/p>\n
