He didn\u2019t need to.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1365\" data-end=\"1420\">\u201cHe\u2019s been looking for her,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd he\u2019s close.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1422\" data-end=\"1543\">A ripple of movement went through the group\u2014boots shifting, hands adjusting gloves, engines revving just a little louder.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1545\" data-end=\"1645\">Mia grabbed the rider\u2019s hand suddenly. \u201cPlease don\u2019t let him take me,\u201d she said, her voice cracking.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1647\" data-end=\"1735\">He looked down at her, and whatever storm was building inside him softened\u2014just for her.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1737\" data-end=\"1768\">\u201cNo one\u2019s taking you,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1770\" data-end=\"1904\">Then he reached into his vest and pulled out a worn piece of cloth\u2014a patch, faded but unmistakable\u2014and tucked it gently into her hand.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1906\" data-end=\"1979\">\u201cIf anything happens,\u201d he told her, \u201cyou hold onto that. You understand?\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1981\" data-end=\"2077\">She nodded, clutching it tightly like it meant something important\u2026 even if she didn\u2019t know why.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2079\" data-end=\"2112\">A distant sound broke the moment.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2114\" data-end=\"2124\">An engine.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2126\" data-end=\"2144\">Not one of theirs.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2146\" data-end=\"2158\">Coming fast.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2160\" data-end=\"2194\">Every head turned toward the road.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2196\" data-end=\"2292\">A truck appeared over the hill, speeding toward them, dust kicking up behind it. It didn\u2019t slow.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2294\" data-end=\"2304\">Mia froze.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2306\" data-end=\"2334\">\u201cThat\u2019s him,\u201d she whispered.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2336\" data-end=\"2380\">The rider stepped in front of her instantly.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2382\" data-end=\"2406\">The bikers moved as one.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2408\" data-end=\"2462\">Engines roared louder now\u2014not idle anymore, but ready.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2464\" data-end=\"2553\">The truck skidded to a stop a few yards away, door swinging open before it fully settled.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2555\" data-end=\"2573\">A man stepped out.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2575\" data-end=\"2595\">Big. Angry.
